Keith Blades is one of Canada’s most highly regarded architectural conservation specialists.

   Educated and trained in England, he holds an MA in Conservation Studies from the University of York. In the UK, he worked with a small architectural firm, focusing on conservation for the Directorate of Ancient Monuments and Historic Buildings. In this capacity he also worked on a number of Royal Palaces, including the Palace of Westminster and other historic buildings and monuments .

   In Canada, he spent 12 years with the federal government where his responsibilities included the  Parliament buildings and other nationally significant structures. Since 1989, his practice has dealt   with a broad range of conservation, technical and educational issues in both the public and private sector and he is in high demand  consult and give lectures and training as one of Canadas foremast authorities  in the field of Masonry Conservation. This includes 10 years at Willowbank School of the Restoration Arts where he emphasizes the principles and practice of conservation. 

His extensive involvement with historic buildings and sites give him  a unique understanding of the philosophical, technical and practical issues associated with conservation.

Alex Blades, MSc. Historic Building Conservation, with a BA (hons) in History from Carleton
University; with a Diploma in Heritage Conservation  from Willowbank School of the Restoration Arts and with an MSc (hons) in Historic Building Conservation from the University of Portsmouth.

   For the past 6 years she has worked as a stone conservator in Canada,  within the Parliamentary complex in Ottawa, the Saskatchewan Legislature and at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons where she was Head Conservator for the 1639 Great Fireplace reconstruction.

   In the UK she worked on
the conservation of the medieval sculptures on the west front of Lincoln Cathedral and, with a small conservation practice, worked on a variety of listed buildings within the care of  The National Trust and Historic England. She now works on the program of conservation to the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa and has joined the Faculty at Willowbank, teaching masonry conservation. .
